Mr & Mrs MacNaughton

Project Introduction
Mr & Mrs MacNaughton own a beautiful barn conversion which is part of a larger old farm complex situated in the Cambridgeshire countryside. The initial meeting outlined some ideas the MacNaughtons had to create an enclosed structure from sleepers in their back garden that would give them privacy whilst entertaining and dining outside.
Testimonial

Mark Macnaughton- "Before our first meeting with Stuart and Alex on the garden project, we were already very confident that we'd found the right people to take our ideas forward. Stuart had recently completed a custom project with French oak, which exceeded all our expectations and Alex came highly recommended by Stuart. Stuart and Alex were very adaptive during the design phase to changing needs and they skilfully articulated their way through the various options, which were precisely engineered using computer generated models. They were also very competitive and flexible on the project costs, which enabled us to go the 'extra mile with the finish'. We were very impressed with Stuart and Alex's technical skills to build the structure and their overall application to keep the project on track. We were subsequently able to enjoy the structure during most of the summer.

Stuart and Alex take great pride in their work and have a can do professional attitude. They are both very personable and were very good company throughout the project. We would be more than happy to recommend their work"

Janice & Peter Harridge

Project Introduction
Janice and Peter Harridge Live in a three storey town house in the historic market town of St Neots backing onto the river Great Ouse. When they first called upon X-scapes to pay a visit to view their riverside garden it was rather an unloved 26 foot squared plot with no boundary, with their boat Dilly moored at her berth. Peters initial suggestion was to have a decking flush with the back door eliminating the need for steps and creating a large area to relax and enjoy the trap of the evening sun.
Testimonial

Peter- “It was a pleasure to work with you both from start to finish and we are more than pleased with the result. As you know, we originally intended to spend far less, on just a bit of decking, but having met you both, seen your design ideas and discussed the detail with you we became convinced that we could achieve something far more impressive that would give us pleasure for years to come and enhance the property thereby justifying the expense. That has turned out to be case. Once the design had been agreed, the preparation, manufacture, and final assembly were all carried out on time, within the agreed budget, and with impressive skill and attention to detail.”

Alison & Barry

Project Introduction
Alison & Barry live In Eaton Ford next to the historic market town of St Neots Cambridgeshire. In their back garden the previous owner had constructed a huge model railway with scaled mountains, made of fibreglass & concrete covering the majority of the garden. The collection of trains and scenery were sold on leaving the substructure of breeze block, soil and decking.
Testimonial

Alison- “I first met the X-Scapes team in the spring of 2014. I was finishing the internal renovation of my home and had begun to clear the garden but needed help in creating an outside space to relax in. I was looking for a contractor to undertake the work but also an organisation that would understand my initial ideas and then would help me develop them into a practical scheme.

Following a meeting with Alex and Stuart from X-Scapes I was very happy that they could provide the design knowledge and the practical solutions to achieve my aspirations.

As a result of X-Scapes efforts I now have a wonderful external entertaining space and a unique tiered planter to separate the leisure part of the garden from the vegetable patch.

I now need to move onto a revamp of the front garden and am working with X-Scapes to develop a design for this area.

I would thoroughly recommend X-Scapes for their design skills, the quality of their workmanship, their friendliness, and in my case, their willingness to work with, and around our two mad Springer Spaniels!”

Mike & Louise

Project Introduction
Louise Copper & Mike Langhorn own a beautiful large modern detached house situated in the pretty Cambridgeshire town of Godmanchester. The initial meeting with Louise was “what can you do with an 8 foot wide strip of grass, 74 foot long please?” The rather bland narrow lawn space with a couple of rows of paving slabs to break it up looked functional at best, bordered by a gated private path and hedgerow beyond overlooked the open space of the park.
Testimonial

Louise & Mike- From the earliest design pictures it was clear X-Scapes had translated our thoughts into a design which was functional, stylish and way beyond anything we could've thought of. The garden design has a coherent feel and sits perfectly within the setting. They approached the project with a passion and excitement which demonstrated this was more than a commercial exchange and rather more of a case of heart and soul being added.

When work commenced it was a pleasure to see the design emerging in reality each day, the attention to detail and craftsmanship was truly outstanding; everything was superbly executed. The weather during the work wasn’t kind but they made the best of it. The different landscaping material add interest to a relative small area – although the postman is still getting used to the cobbles!

Once complete the garden is as creative in reality as it was on paper; it provides an amazing sense of calm and peace when sitting in it. The pictures show it in the early days but as the mixture of grasses grew they filled the area with colours, textures and sound; the wisteria even flowered and has flourished on the wire climbing frame.

There were a number of bonus aspects since the garden has been finished we hadn’t expected but adore. The height of the build enables the plants to be seen inside and we love seeing the grasses moving in the breeze from the windows in the house, this would never be possible without the raised beds. The other is the aspect looking out when the front door is opened the breadth of decking makes this area seem vast and cleverly plays with perspectives as it is in reality a small space.

The garden has been admired by so many since its completion; as we front onto a park often people wander over to the hedge and peer over to see it. As promised by X-Scapes, it has been a garden to enjoy rather than work in, the grasses take care of themselves until autumn where one afternoon of trimming and tidy up is all that’s been needed.

The project was a success in every way and they should be very proud of the garden and we feel privileged to enjoy it each and every day. Just need to save the pennies for them to create an equal wonderland in the rear garden....
