Office building view from the outside

About us

Alex Griffin and Stuart Fisher first collaborated working on transforming a few architectural drawings for a project to create a private space in a communal setting

The project outcome highlighted the potential of a concept for a better way to enjoy outdoor living and X-scapes was formed, handcrafting a range of wooden sculpted seating designs.

“Being environmentally conscious is important to X-scapes and our values, supporting tree planting and recycling schemes and only selecting timber from sustainable sources are key in our manufacturing process.”

Stuart Fisher

Director

From a young age Stuart demonstrated his creative flair and at school, woodwork was one of his favorite subjects, being able to take a sawn plank of timer and turn it into something beautiful. As a trade his grandfather and father's careers in cabinet making and carpentry were always an inspiration to him.

In the late 80s he went on to study and achieve City & Guilds in carpentry & joinery and wood machining. From his apprenticeship to date, he has worked in various sectors of the industry from joinery, site carpentry, furniture design to running his own Princes Trust funded business, Deconomix, manufacturing furniture for the music industry.

To compliment his skill set and expand his knowledge, he took to computer aided design (CAD) to help conceptualize, realise and demonstrate his projects to clients.

Stuart brings his skill set to X-Scapes as a reputable craftsman with an extensive portfolio of work drawn from his 30+ years of experience in the trade.

Alex’s career was born out of his passion for nature, the outdoors and machinery. From a young age he has enjoyed the great outdoors. At the age of seventeen he enrolled onto a training scheme at a local golf course. The passion grew and Alex climbed rapidly within the industry working on contracts as head greenkeeper, managing maintenance and construction projects around the UK, specialising in turning around poorly maintained courses.

In 2008 Alex took a sabbatical from greenkeeping to fulfill a lifelong dream of travelling through wilderness areas of North America. He packed his rucksack and set off on an 19 month adventure. Backpacking around in Canada and the United States, gaining a stronger connection to the planet and environment we live in.

Upon returning to the UK, a contract to work on improving two golf courses in the Netherlands was on the table. Consulting on maintenance practices and staff development, gave him the opportunity to share on his 24 years experience and knowledge.
